Original Items: Only One Set Available. These are excellent fully functional German manufactured WWII S.f.14 Rabbit Ear trench optics that were manufactured for Germany’s ally, Romania, during WWII. Many German sets of these were reissued to Romania after WWII, but this set was manufactured during the war for Romania. This is corroborated by the markings on the side of one of the eyes, with the maker’s mark for Busch of Rathenow, with a Romanian crown crest above it.
The markings read:
L.O. (ROMANIAN CROWN CREST) Nr. 4
Sr. 916
Busch
Rathenow
PUTERE MARIRE 10x
CAMPUL 5°
DIAMETRUL OBIECTIVULUI 50M/M
A German maker with Romanian text applied at the same time confirms that this example was manufactured during World War II for Romania.
This fantastic set comes with its original carrying case, tripod, and accessory case. The rabbit ears still affix to the tripod well enough, but one of the three legs appears to be unable to properly tighten, so the longer leg slides out if it isn’t placed down.
The tripod on its own measures roughly 35” tall, and with the optics installed, it measures roughly 54” tall. The included VIII.18 device as well as the tripod are manufactured by Carl Zeiss of Jena, a specialist lens maker, and one of the finest makers of optics at the time. They designed many of the optics used by Germany during WWII, and continue to produce world class lenses and other optics to this day.
The periscope’s case is in rough shape with some HEAVY loss of stitching, especially on the lid, as the very heavy optic and accessory put continuous strain on it. This set would be best displayed all put-together with the cases serving as aesthetic. The tripod has some strange fur-like material stuck to it in some spots, which could be easily cleaned away with some TLC.
This is a truly phenomenal set, ready for display in any German or Romanian WWII Collection.
